Free Veterans and Armed Force with Disabilities Camp

American Flag Ping Pong PaddlePure Pong in the Pearl will be hosting a USA Table Tennis (USATT) camp for disabled Veterans and Armed Forces with disabilities. USATT has been awarded a grant by the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the US Olympic Committee to hold Table Tennis camps in six locations across the nation. The sport has been found to benefit Veterans both mentally and physically. .

Local high-level coaches like Table Tennis Olympic athlete and founding Pure Pong member, Sean O’Neil, will begin the camp with a presentation explaining the benefits of Table Tennis before teaching basic strokes. O’Neil reached out to Pure Pong to host the camp as a club that offers a great environment and provides league, lesson, and open play opportunities participants can take advantage of proceeding the camp occurring June 9, 10, and 11. The camp is free for all Veterans and Armed Forces with disabilities. In addition to providing veterans with the skills to play a healthful sport, the camp also strives to identify players for the National Paralymic Team for players taking a serious interest in the sport beyond recreation.

Come Learn EVERY Stroke You’ll Ever Need to Know

The 2013 Oregon State Table Tennis Champion, Tim Aikey, will be hosting a clinic at Pure Pong on Friday, March 28th. Come learn forehand and backhand looping, pushing, serves, serve returns, flips, drop shot, blocking, counter topspin, chopping and everything in between from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Group Classes with Jeff Mason, $20 Every Tues. & Thurs.

Group Table Tennis classes will only be $20 for an hour and a half of instruction, held Tuesday and Thursday each week, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Tuesday night lessons will be reserved for seasoned students with a higher rating, typically 800 and above, and Thursday lessons will be reserved for beginners and those rating lower.

To ensure everyone in the group receives individualized instruction, the group classes will be limited to the first 16 students to sign up, with additional certified instructors present to assist. If you haven’t signed up, feel free to take a chance and stop in.

Summer Break Lessons! Get your learn on!

Pick up a new sport and a paddle this summer! Lessons only $15 (regularly $45) for students of all ages 6 to 106! Summer is a great time to learn a sport that strengthens your mind and your muscles.

Lessons with an ITTF certified club coach through summer are only $15 for students all ages. Consider learning something new this year that can be a life-long sport!

Movies in the Park!

Pure Pong rolled a couple tables down the street last Saturday, to The Fields park on Overton, to be part of the weekly event, Movies in the Park! Each week, a film is played at a different City park. Pure Pong was invited as one of the vendors among the treats and music performances that take place before the movie begins! See the schedule to check out where the next flick will be playing in a park near you in Portland! It’s a great family activity or date night… almost as much fun as playing Table Tennis at Pure Pong…but not quite.

Wednesday Night Tune-Up TONIGHT!

jumper cablesFeeling a little rusty? How about a tune-up! Pure Pong can service you tonight! Brian Yoder will be hosting a practice session from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Get tuned up for the under 1200 tournament this coming weekend at Tualatin Hills, or just get your fix in between leagues!

Brian will be there to help members with organized drills and practice tips. Non-members are more than welcome, and can join in for $5, plus open play rates.  If there’s enough interest, we may even have a round robin tournament just to rev up the competitive spirit! Hope to see you tomorrow, eager to jump-start your game!
